Every surveyor has his/hers set price or hourly rate. It can be off putting at times when you are told how much a surveyor will cost you if you are planning on carrying out works to your property.
If you are the Building owner (the person carrying out the works) you will most likely be charged a fixed rate. This is usually the best option because if a surveyor was to charge you based on an hourly rate the amount, they would be charging you could amount to a few thousand pounds, simply because being the Building owners surveyor entails a considerate amount of work.
For example, from going over the proposed project, going over drawings, collecting adequate information before and after serving a party wall notice(s), liaising with yourself and or neighbour(s) and or a surveyor if your neighbour(s) were to use their own surveyor(s), to carrying out a schedule(s) of condition to preparing and finalising the Party Wall Award.
In terms of how much a surveyor can charge varies on there hourly rate. The hourly rate varies depending on how much a surveyor charges hourly, from £100 – £300 per hour. Most surveyors charge between the £120 – £150 per hour.
Note that if you are the one carrying out the works you will 9 times of out 10 be liable for your neighbours surveyor’s fee if your neighbour chooses to use their own surveyor so please do not be too surprised if you are told this.
